TEAKHOUT

Teak or Tectona Grandis is one of the most precious wood in the world as also the most durable, resistant to sun, rain, insects and frost. Over time the wood acquires its familiar silver-gray patina by a natural process, but despite or perhaps because of its natural beauty is preserved for decades.

As we mentioned Teak wood is very precious and deserves the best possible sustainable forest management, therefore high environmental standards and sustainable forestry are as much a criterion as the quality of the wood.

Traditional Teak stands for; high quality garden furniture that combines timeless design with sustainable production.
Traditional Teak only uses the very best certified teak woord for our collection, in combination with other high quality materials such as stainless steel.
As a result of this durable garden furniture is created which convinces with an attractive appearance and a high quality.

HERKOMST VAN ONS TEAK:

Teak’s origins are in the subtropical monsoon forests of Southeast Asia and South- America. This includes Indonesia, northern Thailand and parts of Laos and Bangladesh.

To us, teak is more than a raw material, it is a passion and the basis for every piece of furniture Traditional Teak produces.

TEAK has an enormous value for us, therefore Traditional Teak wants to preserve and protect this gem of mother nature. Therefore Traditional Teak only processes the very best certified teakwood, harvested according to the standards of responsible forest management. We therefore meet the strict standard of the FLEGT law, and in addition we work with FSC® certified suppliers.

FSC-TEAK:

This certification includes globally applicable principles that guarantee a certified product, which comes from sustainable management. When you buy products made from FSC certified teak, it is a guarantee that the forest ecosystem with all its endangered species of animals and plants is protected, as well as the rights of indigenous people and workers in the field of wood extraction.

PLANTAGE TEAK:

In addition to FSC®-certified wood, we also process plantation teak from Asia; this comes from commercially established state forestry plantations.

Teak plantations of considerable size and age are currently found only on the island of Java. These commercial forests were established in 1880 and have been managed since then by the state-owned company PT. Perhutani.  PT. Perhutani controls the felling of timber in the Indonesian plantations and thus ensures sustainable management.

In addition, the European Timber Regulation (EUTR) is part of the European Union’s action plan on Forest Law Enforcement, Governance and Trade (FLEGT). The FLEGT law was created in 2003 to combat illegal logging and trade in illegal timber.

Combating this illegal trade and promoting legal trade therefore contribute to sustainable forestry and social development in the region. Important tools in the FLEGT Action Plan are proof of legality for harvested timber and Voluntary Partnership Agreements (VPA) between the EU and the governments of producing countries.

Traditional Teak has established the entire Chain of Custody and has all the necessary documents to guarantee the origin of the wood.
